Closing the Summer course through the holding of the International Essai Contest: IPB successfully invited 91 students from various countries!

 The Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB University held a Summer Course on Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) which was held on September 14-24 2021. This activity is an annual activity that has been carried out since 2017. The Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) course has the theme Response to Covid-19 for Sustainable Agriculture Transformation.

The Summer Course Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) activities are also complemented by Essay Contest activities. This activity is an opportunity for participants to express their ideas in the form of essays with the theme Sustainability and Resilience in Agrifood Systems. The theme is expected to motivate participants to better understand the topics discussed in the 2021 Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) Summer Course program this time. In addition, the participants were also encouraged to design conclusions and solutions to the problems raised, especially in the field of Agrifood Systems.

In its fifth year, the SAMI Summer Course 2021 consists of 91 participants with 37 participants from Indonesia and 53 participants from outside Indonesia, such as the Philippines, India, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal, to Nigeria. On the first day of the 2021 SAMI Summer Course, participants have submitted personal essays with the theme about Agrifood Systems. Furthermore, the participants were grouped into 18 groups of five students. The group is then encouraged to make an essay either with a new work or by selecting and improving the quality of an essay that has been made previously.

The Essay Contest activity was followed by an online group presentation on the last day of the 2021 SAMI Summer Course. On that occasion, the essays presented were judged by an external judge, namely Assoc Prof Dr. Zuraina Dato Mansor from University of Putra Malaysia and Sidrotun Naim Phd , Rindah Febriana, S.E., M.Acc., Ak, CA, Dr. Eko Ruddy Cahyadi, S.Hut, MM, Sidrotun Naim, P.hD from IPMI Business School, Internal Jury from IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Musa Hubeis, M.S., Dipl.Ing., DEA, Nisa Zahra STP, M.Si and Rindah Febriana M.Acc. The results of this Essay contest will be published in the form of an ISBN book containing a collection of essays on the results of activities that have been selected individually or in groups.

According to Lindawati Kartika as the head of the SAMI summer course activity and the head of the Essay contest, that this essay contest activity is a closing series of the SAMI summer course and in 2021 this essay contest will be the third year, but for the SAMI summer course itself it is the fifth year, and very I am grateful that every year, international SAMI summer course enthusiasts in particular always increase.

The announcement of the winner of the SAMI 2021 Essay Contest as well as the best participant will be held at the closing of the SAMI Summer Course 2021 on September 24, 2021 at 04 pm. In addition to getting a certificate of appreciation, as well as a credit earning certificate, participants also get cash prizes of up to millions of rupiah.

The best winner of the SAMI Summer course went to Robin Ysa Sofia from De La Salle University of the Philippines, Jan Carlo Mercado from TUAF Vietnam, Nurul Safeza from the University of Malaysia Sabah and Bagas Aditya from President University, while the best oral presenter went to Rose Marie Villanueva from De La Salle university, Pang Jun Feng from University Malaysia Sabah also Jan Carlo from TUAF Vietnam.

The best essay went to the Rudi Triyono group from IPB university and the team, with the title “Sustainable agriculture transformation: change Management and innovation in the agrifood sector through MSME Halal certification efforts. The second position was won by Jan Carlo, Adinda Yoma from IPB University and a team with the title: agriyouth promotion and collaborative internship in rural farms towards a resilient, digitized and competent ASEAN agriculture, the third position was won by Hasna Nadiya from IPB University and Nurisa Yama from Songkhla Rajabhat University Thailand and the team with the title : Financial inclusion of smallholder farmers in Indonesia and the 1st position of hope was obtained by Newton Tham kien Hong from the University of Malaysia Sabah and the team with the title Unmanned aerial vehicle : a step closer to modern agriculture.

The SAMI Summer Course 2021 activity was closed by the Director of International Cooperation of IPB University Prof. Dr. Iskandar Zulkarnain and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management of IPB Mr. Prof. Nunung Nuryartono with a message to program alumni to continue to have an impact on achieving sustainable development goals throughout the world through concrete steps and forums. scientific forums wherever they are.

The SAMI Summer Course 2021 activity was also sponsored by PT Perdagangan Perusahaan Indonesia, PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali, PT Paragon Technology and Innovation, PT Pegadaian, and BLST IPB.
